Growing Strawberries in Containers
Strawberries are a great way to get children interested in gardening.
The sweet, juicy fruit gives them ample reward for their efforts and can bring out the green thumb in your budding gardener. However, it’s a good idea for you to take a few precautions so your young one is not disappointed.
Planting your strawberries in tubs and wrapping those tubs in coper wire, or taking other precautions to help deter slugs is necessary. With children involved, I really can’t recommend using an organic deterrent method highly enough. I’ve never known a child that can wait until their strawberries are washed before starting to munch.
You can get special pots that are designed to grow strawberries, they have holes down the sides so you can fit many plants into a small space. Failing this, cut 3 inch holes in the side of a piece of plastic drainpipe, fill the pipe with compost and place up against a wall. You can pop your plants into the holes, just be careful to water very regularly, the plants in this can dry out very quickly.

Strawberries are one of my favorite plants to have growing near the house or in a hanging planter. And they are my nephews favorite when they stop by in the summer.
I did try planting the strawberries in tubes one year and it worked quite well. Denise
